IGNC Abrazo Reception*

Two sets of mini-ambassadors, a young boy and a girl from each side of the Rio Grande, are the pride of their countries as they model hand-made original creations of traditional period costumes specially made to represent the United States and Mexico in this formal reception held in the children's honor.

The reception serves as a prelude to the historic International Bridge Ceremony that is held every year at the Lincoln-Juarez Bridge.  Two cultures unite as dignitaries from both sides of the border meet at the international bridge line to commemorate the existing bond between the US and Mexico during this IGNC/WBCA sponsored event.

The "Abrazo Children" dressed in their elaborate period costumes share a symbolic embrace of goodwill and friendship during the early morning exchange of hugs and gifts.  This ceremonial act is then mimicked by dignitaries who also participate in a similar exchange.  The purpose of this event, which dates back to the 1950's is to celebrate and foster the international relationship between the US and Mexico. The International Bridge Ceremony will be held this year on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 7 a.m.
