2020 Air Show Marshal and Air Show Acts Revealed

LAREDO, TX – The Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) has formally announced Lieutenant Colonel John “Seabass” Sebesta as the Air Show Marshal for the 2020 WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular Sponsored by Miller Lite.  Along with the official announcement of Lieutenant Colonel Sebesta, WBCA is pleased to announce the entertainment lineup for the 22nd annual WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular.

The WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular Sponsored by Miller Lite will take place during the 123rd Washington’s Birthday Celebration on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Laredo International Airport (Maher Entrance). For a limited time only, WBCA will be offering general admission tickets for ONLY $5 until January 26th at 11:59 pm exclusively at wbcaairshow.com.

 After January 26th, general admission tickets will be $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Additional sponsors include Falcon Bank.

This is such a great tradition to celebrate our Texan heritage and allow the Air Force Reserves to show our support to the people of Laredo. Flying the C-5M with a Texas flag on it around the world, showcasing Texas pride, has been one of the greatest things a small town Texas boy could do. I’m proud to be a part of the Air Force Reserves at the Alamo Wing and showcase the C-5M to fellow Texans,” said Lieutenant Colonel Sebesta.

Lt Col John E. Sebesta is the Chief Pilot for the 68 Airlift Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, TX. He is an Examiner Aircraft Commander with over 2,000 hours in the C-5.

Lt Col Sebesta began his military career in 1995 at, Lackland AFB, TX as a basic trainee. Upon completing basic training he attend technical training at Sheppard AFB, TX as an F-16 crew chief. During the program he was selected to be student number 1 to attend a newly developed F-117A crew chief course at Holloman AFB, NM in 1996. In 1998, he was selected for the Professional Officer’s Course Early Release Program and enrolled at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ. He was selected to attend Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training upon his graduation in 2000. He attended pilot training at Laughlin AFB, TX.  After completion of UPT in 2002, he was assigned to the 21 Airlift Squadron at Travis AFB, CA.  He quickly upgraded to Instructor Pilot in the C-5A/B as a Captain and served as the Squadron Executive Officer and progressed to Assistant Flight Commander.  Lt Col Sebesta was reassigned in 2006 to the 458 Airlift Squadron at Scott AFB, IL.  While serving as the Wing Chief of Flight Safety, he was deployed to Al Udied AB, Qatar as the Director of Operations for the C-21A Detachment and ultimately filled in as the Commander for the last 45 days of his tour.  In 2008 he was tasked to be the Safety Advisor to the Afghan National Army Air Corps.  In 2009 he attended the State Flight Academy of Ukraine in Kirovograd, Ukraine to fly the Antonov-32. He served with the 438 Combined Air Power Transition Force in Kabul, Afghanistan as an Instructor Pilot in the AN-32 teaching the Afghan pilots structured air flying and instrument procedures. After the tour, he was reassigned to Travis AFB, CA in the 22 Airlift Squadron as Bravo Flight Commander, and then Chief of Squadron Safety before separating from active duty to join the Air Force Reserves in 2010. Lt Col Sebesta was hired as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Chief of Special Assignment Airlift Missions at the 618 Air Operations Center at Scott AFB, IL. He served there until 2013 when he transferred to the 68 Airlift Squadron Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, TX. He quickly requalified to instructor pilot and then evaluator pilot. He worked through scheduling to become the Chief of Scheduling and then was selected to be the Chief Pilot. He is a command pilot, having flown more than 3,000 hours in the T-37, T-1, C-5A/B/C/M, C-21A and An-32 aircraft.

With the naming of Lieutenant Colonel Sebesta, he now becomes an official Ambassador for the 123rd Washington’s Birthday Celebration.

This year the WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular Sponsored by Miller Lite will feature the F-16 Viper Demonstration Team. The Air Combat Command F-16 Viper Demonstration Team at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., performs precision aerial maneuvers to demonstrate the unique capabilities of one of the Air Force’s premier multi-role fighters — the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The team’s F-16CM Fighting Falcon, affectionately known as the “Viper,” is a single-seat, multi-role fighter with the ability to switch between an air-to-ground and an air-to-air role at the touch of a button.                                                            

Adding to the excitement will be a slew of amazing aerial and static displays which will include the work of world renowned Air Show Commentator, Mike “Spanky” Galloway; Aerial pilots: Chet Kuhn, Rick Kelley, Randy Henderson, Aaron Taylor and Stephen Covington; the nationally acclaimed RE/MAX Skydiving Team, Falcon Flight, Lewis Air Legends and more!   Static displays include the C-5 Galazy, C-130, F-16 and a helicopter to display.

The Air Show Sponsored by Miller Lite, will remain one of the most affordable air shows in the country – just $10 for adults, and children 12 and under will get in FREE. Early Bird Tickets for ONLY $5 will be available exclusively online at wbcaairshow.com until Jan. 26. After Jan. 26, tickets will be $10.

Preferred seating will also be available inside the grounds which includes the Flightline Chalet for $20.

The Flightline Chalet pre-sale ticket includes general admission to the air show grounds, access to static displays, a sun and shaded seating area, premium viewing area, complimentary pizza, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and exclusive restrooms.

The Afterburner Club Sponsored by Falcon Bank presale ticket includes general admission to the air show grounds, access to the static displays, guaranteed seats in the Afterburner Club, a sun and shaded seating area, premium viewing area, complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages, complimentary alcoholic beverages and exclusive restrooms. Individual tickets are $50. Tables of 10 are also available at the Afterburner Club for $500.

General Admission, Flight Line Chalet, Afterburner Club and 2020 Celebration event tickets will also be available at the WBCA Ticket Kiosk inside Mall del Norte beginning February 10 – while supplies last!
