LAREDO, TX – A total of 14 participants went head-to-head in the Stripes® Media/Celebrity Jalapeño Eating Challenge in South Texas on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Stripes® Convenience Store located on Jacaman Rd.
Participants included Radio Personalities: Gilberto J. Cardenas “Stickerman” (Guerra Communications), Jocy Zamora (Z93/Guerra Communications), Fernando “El Tigre” Castillo (Z93/Guerra Communications), Victor “Chacho” Sosa (Z93/Guerra Communications), Arely A. Zavala (Z93/Guerra Communications), Nathaniel Barrientos (Z93/Guerra Communications), Ivan “Vanish” Morales (R Communications/HOT 106.1), Ricardo “DJ Ricky Rick” (R Communications/Digital 94.9), Sammy the House (107.3), Graciela “Chelys” Moreno (La Raza), Ulises DJ Wacho (El Raza) Raul Borrego (La Raza), TV Personality Alma Ferrara (Univision) and Jorge Vela (Laredo Morning Times).
Jerry “El Papi Chulo” Rodriguez from Z93/Guerra Communications served as the official timekeeper for the Stripes® Media/Celebrity Jalapeño Eating Challenge where local celebrities had only 5 minutes to attempt to eat as many jalapeños as possible. Pepe Jalapeño and Stripes mascots were on-site to cheer on the contestants as they tackled the eye-watering task.
After 5 excruciating minutes, Z93’s Nathaniel Barrientos came out in first place, taking home the Grand Champion trophy after eating 46 jalapeños! Jocy Zamora from Z93 came came in second with 21 jalapeños and Jorge Vela from Laredo Morning Times placed third with 20 jalapeños.
The winners took home tickets to the WBCA Jalapeño Festival. All participants received Stripes swag goodie bags.
