2020 WBCA Founding Fathers’ 5K Run Race Results

LAREDO – The Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) Founding Fathers’ 5K Run and Wellness Fair took place on Saturday, February 15th at the Laredo Medical Center (LMC).

Clear skies and pleasant weather greeted 476 participants of all ages at the Founding Fathers’ 5K Run & Wellness Fair.

The top honors for overall male and female went to Israel Gonzalez, with a time of 15:53 and Nora Jimenez with a time of 18:10.

The Fittest Organization award was won by the Laredo Medical Center who had over 88 runners and walkers.

The WBCA cup was won by the RXC Running Club for the third year in a row.   The club consists of Josue Huitron (18:19), Rolando Cazares (18:23), Hiram Orozco (18:29); Diego Ramirez (18:30), Michael Casso (18:56), Annette Jimenez (22:30) and Miranda Hernandez (24:07).

The Most Patriotic Award went to Team Toxic which consisted of Cesar Arce, Jonathan Castillo, Dave Sexton, Joshua Nuñez, Jose Alvarado, Alberto Escobedo, Efrain Dominguez, Kimberly Lee, Gloria Guajardo and Valente Esparza.

All attendees were also able to take advantage of the outdoor wellness fair, which offered complimentary screenings of blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, vision checks, pulmonary function and more.

The Founding Fathers’ 5K Fun Run is sponsored by Laredo Medical Center, Bai, Academy® Sports+Outdoors and Delta Dental. In-kind sponsors are the City of Laredo Parks and Leisure Services Department and McDonald’s of Laredo.

Tickets for the rest of the 2020 Celebration can be purchased at the WBCA ticket kiosk inside Mall Del Norte — while supplies last!  Last day for pre-sale tickets is Friday, February 21. Hours of operation for the ticket kiosk will be Monday thru Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket kiosk will be closed on Sundays. The Washington’s Birthday Celebration, founded in 1898, is the largest Celebration of its kind in the United States.

Throughout the years, the Celebration has grown to be over a month long and consists of parades, dazzling pageants, fireworks, a carnival, an air show, a sizzling jalapeño festival and much more.  Combined, WBCA events attract nearly 500,000 residents and visitors, and yearly contributes an estimated $14 million to the local economy.
