WBCA mourns the loss of President- Elect Randy Blair
On Saturday, January 19, at 4:54 p.m. the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association lost one of its more ardent and exemplary members of the Association, President-Elect Randall Scott Blair. Blair passed away at the age of 58 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas after a 5 month battle with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is survived by his wife Nancy Blair and son Roger Blair.
“Randy was a dedicated Catholic, husband and father, a true Aggie and a wonderful friend. His passion for WBCA was unmatched. He will be missed immensely,”
WBCA President Jay Puig said of Blair, who volunteered with the organization for over 29 years.
Randy S. Blair was selected to serve as part of the WBCA Executive Committee in 2015. His involvement in WBCA began in 1984 when he joined the Jalapeño Festival committee as a director, and continued working with the Festival until he served as president in 1989. He has been a volunteer member of the Mr. South Texas Luncheon Committee since 1990 when he was appointed to the WBCA Board in 1994 and served as a WBCA Presidential Appointee. He chaired multiple WBCA Committees over the years.
In addition, Blair received the WBCA President’s Award in 1995 & 2013, the Matias De Llano Award in 2002, and the Joseph Netzer Award in 2015. An active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, he was elected president of the St. Patrick’s Men’s Club in January of 2015.
Blair was also nominated by Bishop James Tamayo to join the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, a Papal Order, and was inducted in 2011. He served as an advisory board member for Bethany House of Laredo since 1995 and chaired the Patrick H. Alexander, Jr. Memorial Buck for Bethany since 2014. Additionally he has been active with the Boy Scouts since 2004 serving as a Scout Master from 2006 to 2009.
Blair moved to Laredo in 1982 after graduating from Texas A&M University in College Station to join the firm of Botello, Gonzalez & Farias. He became a certified public accountant in 1985 and opened his own CPA firm, Blair & Blair, PC in 1997 with his wife Nancy, who was president of the WBCA in 2011. They have one son, Roger, who was an Abrazo Child in 1998.
“Randy left his mark on WBCA and his passing leaves a huge void,”
said Past President Pati Guajardo.
“He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and who had the honor of working alongside him.”
Past President Eddie Villarreal reiterated Pati’s and Jay’s comments.
“Throughout the 30+ years that I worked with Randy, he would always say “I’ve got your back” and not once did he ever let me down,”
“I am proud and honored to call him my friend.”
WBCA is honoring Mr. Randy Blair with a special tribute on the WBCA website, www.wbcalaredo.org with video, photos and memories shared. Additionally, WBCA Board Members will be wearing special red, white and blue tribute ribbons with a guardian angel, in honor of Randy Blair.

said Veronica Castillon, WBCA Past President.
“I take comfort in knowing Randy is now fully restored and resting in God’s arms.”
