Sneak Peek Premiere at Commander’s Reception Official Kick-Off for the 123rd Celebration

LAREDO – The Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) kicked-off the 123rd festivities with lively music, food, confetti and the official ribbon cutting of the Celebration during the Commander’s Reception on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the Sames Auto Arena.

“It’s party time again in Laredo as I invite you to join us for the 123rd Washington’s Birthday Celebration,” WBCA President Bobby Peregoy said.  “With over 37 events in 46 days, I am sure you will experience some of the finest entertainment along the border.”

In-Kind sponsors for the event include the Doctors Hospital and Sames Auto Arena.

The highly anticipated event provided the perfect opportunity for members of the media to get a sneak peek of entertainment to come. WBCA Event Committees and affiliate organizations, such as the Princess Pocahontas Council, the Society of Martha Washington and LULAC were also given the opportunity to showcase their respective organizations and invite the media to their events. Guy Gilchrist (Jim Henson Cartoonist) and Lincoln Coleman (Former Dallas Cowboy and Superbowl Champion) attended the event and signed autographs in the STCE’s Comic Con booth and will join Comic Con at TAMIU along with other celebrities this weekend. The WBCA Pipes & Stripes Car Show showcased vintage cars inside and outside the arena.

Joining in the official ribbon cutting of the 123rd Washington’s Birthday Celebration were WBCA Officials, members of the media, dignitaries and sponsors who help make the festivities possible.

Tickets for the 2020 Celebration can be purchased beginning February 10 at the WBCA ticket kiosk inside Mall Del Norte — while supplies last!  Last day for pre-sale tickets is Friday, February 21. Hours of operation for the ticket kiosk will be Monday thru Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket kiosk will be closed on Sundays. The Washington’s Birthday Celebration, founded in 1898, is the largest Celebration of its kind in the United States.

Throughout the years, the Celebration has grown to be over a month long and consists of more than 37 events in 46 days.  Events include parades, dazzling pageants, fireworks, a carnival, an air show, a sizzling jalapeño festival and much more.  Combined, WBCA events attract nearly 500,000 residents and visitors, and yearly contributes an estimated $14 million to the local economy.
