LAREDO – The Washington’s Birthday Celebration (WBC) Museum is ready to showcase the wonderful and dazzling history of yesteryears’ Celebrations. New exhibits are on display and visitors are invited to admire Celebration memorabilia, which includes the intricate beading and designs of costumes and gowns to black and white photos of Celebrations past.
“We’re pleased to give the public an opportunity to view mementos and memorabilia from past Celebrations at the Museum to remind Laredo why our community celebrates George Washington in the month of February,” WBCA President Bobby Peregoy said.
The WBC Museum is located across the street from Laredo’s revered landmark, historic San Agustin Cathedral at 920 Zaragoza Street.
“We are honored to house a museum that pays tribute to an enduring institution that is the Washington’s Birthday Celebration. The museum presents a great opportunity to publically exhibit essential aspects of the Celebration that have helped institute it as paramount in Laredo’s history. We extend our gratitude to the Association and LCVB for this partnership,” said Hector J. Garcia, General Manager of La Posada Hotel.
Museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment by calling the front desk at La Posada Hotel, the official host hotel of the Celebration at (956) 722-1701, or by visiting the lobby. The museum’s regular hours of operation for the peak celebration season were made possible through a partnership with the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau (LCVB) by providing staffing assistance. Admission is free and open to the public.
Tickets to the WBCA Jalapeño Festival Sponsored by La Costeña and WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular Sponsored by Miller Lite can also be purchased online at jalapenofest.org and wbcaairshow.com, respectively.
