“It is my honor to present the Laredo Little Theatre and the Tecolotes de los dos Laredos with the title of Parade Marshals for the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade and the IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars,” said WBCA President Jay Puig.

Founded in 1911, the mission of the Laredo Little Theatre is to preserve, develop and promote the arts and culture in Laredo and our surrounding communities. The scope of the theatre’s programming varies in each of the following: theater arts, dance and music. While incorporating aspects of acting technique (including voice and movement), the focus is on individual creative expression and performance in a safe, collaborative environment. Theater is used as a tool for enhancing self-esteem, developing language and communication skills, strengthening cultural identity, increasing academic and vocational skill sets, and promoting literacy in both English and Spanish. WBCA is proud to honor the Laredo Little Theatre as the 2019 Anheuser Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade Marshals.

“We are honored to have been selected as this year’s Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade Marshal. Like WBCA, we have been entertaining audiences for well over 100 years. We look forward to being a part of the celebration. We celebrate this honor with our many supporters, volunteers, and most importantly the actors, directors, and performers that have graced our stage. We will continue to preserve, develop and promote the arts and culture in Laredo,” said A.B. Barrera, Laredo Little Theatre Board Member and Publicity Officer.

The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos will lead the IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars, which serves as a prelude to the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade.

The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (Owls of the two Laredos), one of the oldest teams in Mexican baseball, returned to the border cities this past season, to the delight of their many fans. This unique team plays on both sides of the Rio Grande at the Estadio Ciudad Deportiva in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico; and, at the Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas as part of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (Mexican Baseball League). The Mexican Baseball League is a professional baseball league based in Mexico. It is a class Triple-A league in organized Minor League Baseball, which is only one grade below Major League Baseball. The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos will proudly serve as the 2019 IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars Parade Marshals and lead more than 125 entries down San Bernardo Avenue.

“It is a great honor for us to be selected as Parade Marshals for IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars during the 122nd Washington’s Birthday Celebration. As part of the community, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos has been concerned to keep both cities united through sport, for which we are pleased to be part of this traditional celebration,” said Benito Varela Muñoz.

This year’s parade theme is “Our Culture Unites Us.” Float entries and parade units can find inspiration and show off all those diverse customs, music and traditions that make America and Laredo beautiful. Celebrate the USA and its influences from various parts of the globe. Show your patriotism and love for our Country and its diversity. Use this opportunity to teach our children about our beautiful city, state and country that we live in with its multi-cultural history, influences and people; and, showcase all the various sights, sounds, musical genres, cultures and traditions that we hold dear and unites us as one.

The IBC Youth Parade Under the Stars is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 21, 2019.  This illuminated evening parade highlights talented youth as they promenade over the streets of Downtown Laredo and entertain the crowds with their dance routines, marching units and fully decorated floats.

The Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019.  Referred to as the “crown jewel” of the Celebration, this international parade is led by the ever-popular Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales and features dazzling floats from all over South Texas.  During this parade, Princess Pocahontas is presented with a key to the City by the Mayor of Laredo; the Society of Martha Washington debutantes display their beautifully beaded, glittering gowns; and bands, marching units, clowns and dance teams perform for the crowds making this a truly unforgettable event.
