Eddie Alvarez, a proud Laredo native, brings a rich artistic legacy and community leadership to the 2026
128th Washington’s Birthday Celebration commemorative art poster. Titled “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”, his work captures the enduring spirit of unity, patriotism, and cultural pride
that defines Laredo’s historic celebration. Alvarez studied art at the University of Houston and has been
mentored by esteemed artists Rosario Azios and Julio Mendez. His most recent collaboration with noted regional painter Arturo Nochebuena has further shaped his vibrant, narrative style. Beyond the canvas, Alvarez has served as president of both the Laredo Center for the Arts and the International Good Neighbor Council, reinforcing his deep commitment to cross-cultural dialogue and civic engagement.
His 2026 poster marks a tribute not only to the legacy of George Washington but also to the values of liberty and inclusion that resonate across generations in the Laredo community.
