Welcome to the 129th Washington’s Birthday Celebration
As President of the 129th Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association, and a proud U.S. Naval veteran, it is truly an honor to welcome you to this year’s festivities.
The Washington’s Birthday Celebration is one of the oldest and most patriotic celebrations in the United States, honoring our Founding Father, Commander-in-Chief, and first President, General George Washington. What makes it even more special is the unique international flair that only Laredo can offer.
Together with the City of Laredo and Webb County, WBCA proudly hosts more than 32 events over 46 days — a true celebration of community, culture, and tradition. From our spectacular opening fireworks and drone show to a lineup that rivals the excitement of the Fourth of July, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Our celebration includes the first family-friendly Air Show of the season, a 12-day carnival filled with thrilling rides, the elegant Colonial Gala honoring our nation’s early history, and the presentation of Princess Pocahontas and her court. You’ll also experience the award-winning Jalapeño Festival, the world-renowned La Costeña Jalapeño Eating Contest, one of the nation’s most unique international parades, and the heartfelt WBCA/IGNC International Bridge Ceremony — where we celebrate the enduring friendship between the United States and Mexico with a symbolic abrazo.
Behind it all are hundreds of dedicated volunteers and their families who give their time and energy to make this celebration possible year after year. We are equally grateful to our sponsors, community partners, leaders, Board of Directors, affiliate organizations, and WBCA staff for their continued support and commitment.
Whether you’ve been part of this celebration for years or are experiencing it for the first time, I invite you to join us and be part of the 129th Celebration — done in true Laredo style.
Mark your calendars and make plans to join us as we come together to make this year bigger and better than ever.
I look forward to seeing you at the festivities from January 14 through February 28, 2027.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alberto Salinas
2026–2027 President
