George & Martha Washington

Nydia Sanchez Weathers was born in Laredo, Texas, to the late Mr. Jorge P. Sanchez and Ms. Magdalena Sanchez Quintanilla. A proud graduate of United High School, she continued her education at The University of Texas at San Antonio, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1990. Her professional journey began in retail management, overseeing Limited Express stores in San Antonio from 1990 to 1992. However, her passion for healthcare led her to pursue a career in dental hygiene. She graduated with honors from The University of Texas Health Science Center, earning the title of Outstanding Clinician for the Class of 1994.
For the past 31 years, Nydia has dedicated her career to Gentle Family Dentistry, where she works alongside Dr. Rolando Guerra, whom she considers family. Her commitment to excellence in patient care and her passion for dentistry have made her a respected professional in the field.

Beyond her professional achievements, Nydia is deeply devoted to community service. She volunteered for Casa Misericordia for a decade, fundraising and serving on the Board of Directors from 2020 to 2023 to support survivors of domestic violence. She has also contributed her time to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and played a pivotal role in the United High School Tailgate Committee, serving as Board Member and President in 2022 and 2023. Under her leadership, the tailgate event successfully raised money for scholarships for deserving United High School seniors.

Nydia has also been a dedicated member of the Society of Martha Washington since 2006. She served on the Board in 2014 and 2015, chaired the November Presentation in 2015, and recently held the position of Historian for 2024. As part of the choreography committee, she has devoted countless Sundays to preparing young women for their debutante presentations.

Her contributions to the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association span nearly three decades, beginning in 1995. Elected to the Board of Directors in 2010, she has chaired numerous events, including the Afterburner Club for the Airshow, the Hotspot for the Jalapeño Festival, the Commander’s Reception, and the Poster Unveiling. Under her leadership, the Afterburner and Hotspot events saw increased revenue and attendance due to her strategic planning. In recognition of her unwavering dedication, she received the prestigious Matias Dellano Award in 2012, the highest honor bestowed by the association’s president.
In 2018 and again in 2023, Nydia was honored with the Joseph Netzer Award, an esteemed recognition presented to a board member who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, leadership, and dedication in assisting the association’s president in achieving a successful year. This award is given only to those who go above and beyond their responsibilities, making significant contributions to the growth and success of the organization. Nydia made history as the first board member to receive this award twice, a testament to her unparalleled devotion and impact within the association.

A devoted wife and mother, Nydia shares a lifelong love story with her husband, Bob Weathers. High school sweethearts, they dated for 11 years before marrying and have now celebrated 27 years of marriage. Together, they have raised two accomplished children, Stephan Cole Weathers and Alexandra Cristina Weathers. Their children have been deeply involved in Laredo’s traditions—Stephan participated as an Abrazo Child in 2009, a Page in 2014, and an Escort in 2018, while Alexandra was presented as a debutante in 2021.
Nydia and Bob have built a life centered on family, community, and shared values. Whether dedicating their time to civic organizations, fostering traditions, or enjoying time at their lake house in Seguin, they continue to make a meaningful impact on those around them. Their legacy of service and leadership remains an inspiration to all who know them.

Bob Weathers – A Life of Service, Leadership, and Dedication
Bob Weathers, a dedicated community leader and successful businessman, was born in Dallas, Texas. As a teenager, he moved to Laredo, Texas, a city he would proudly call home for the rest of his life. A graduate of United High School, Bob pursued higher education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and International Trade from the McCombs School of Business.
Bob’s professional career has spanned several industries, including logistics and mortgage banking. He played a pivotal role in establishing Landstar Inway’s logistics services in Laredo, facilitating trade between Mexico and the U.S. His expertise in international trade allowed businesses to move goods seamlessly across the border.

Since 1999, Bob has been a key figure in the mortgage banking industry. In 2005, he co-founded W.H. Mortgage Solutions, which later transitioned into Thrive Mortgage. His leadership and dedication in the mortgage sector have earned him national recognition. His branch was awarded Top 10 Branch in Thrive Mortgage nationwide for several years, a testament to his commitment to excellence. Additionally, Bob was inducted into the President’s Club multiple times, an honor reserved for top producers who exceed 100 loans and several million dollars in funded loans annually.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob has been a passionate and devoted volunteer in the Laredo community. His involvement with the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association began in 1999, where he took on leadership roles, including chairing the parades and serving as Airshow Chairman for eight years. His commitment to the celebration was recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Joseph Netzer Award (2005), the President’s Merit Award (2007), and the Matias Dellano Award (2008). In 2008, he was elected to the Executive Board and later served as the association’s President in 2013.
His service extended beyond the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association, as he became the President of The Caballeros de la República del Río Grande in 2018 and actively volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club of Laredo. His dedication to public service was further recognized when he was awarded the title of Honorary Captain of the Texas State Guard, a distinction bestowed upon an individual by the state governor or military leadership, essentially granting them the honorary rank of captain. It is a way to publicly acknowledge their dedication and involvement. He is also a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, honoring his deep-rooted family heritage.

Bob’s family legacy is rich in tradition, with his mother, Julia Bird Muller, having been presented as a debutante in 1955, alongside her twin brother, James Robert Muller, who served as an escort. The family’s involvement in society events continued with Francine Muller Wright (1990), Roberto Von Muller (1994), Kierstin Nicole Woodul (2022), Aidan Von Muller (page in 2017, escort in 2025), and Ava Viktoria Muller (to be presented in 2026).

Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Bob enjoys an active lifestyle. He looks forward each year to his annual trips to Cabo with his twin brother, John, where they go deep-sea fishing for marlin—a shared passion that has led to many memorable moments, including the unforgettable day they reeled in a 717-pound marlin, a true highlight of their adventures. He also enjoys sailing, working out, and scuba diving.
With a lifetime dedicated to leadership, service, and business excellence, Bob Weathers has left an indelible mark on Laredo and beyond, embodying the spirit of commitment and community
